An Industrial Chic Family-Run Property in Berlin’s Friedrichshain Neighborhood
Centrally located in Friedrichshain, Berlin, a few minutes from the East Side Gallery and walking distance from Berghain, Michelberger Hotel is a family-run, beautiful independent hotel. The property has an elegant mid-century industrial aesthetic, with ultra-high ceilings, exposed concrete, DDR-inspired lighting, and hand-blown glass chandeliers. It was once a lighting factory, and you can see its origin in the building’s structure. A nearby organic farm by the same family provides fresh fruits and vegetables, which appear in chef Alan Mick’s plant-focused, seasonal sharing menu.
Rooms have a loft-like, DIY feel, with categories ranging from dorm-style communal lofts for 4-6 friends to cozy, smaller rooms for couples, expansive lofts with king-size beds, and four Luxus rooms, some of which come with video projectors. Hideouts are suites—light-filled oases with sound systems, private saunas, baths, rain showers, kitchens and dining tables, a second bed for children or a third person, and a special service menu only available to these rooms. This relaxed hotel really has an artist’s vibe—in the aesthetic, but also the programming; live music is a constant feature of Michelberger, often in the lush courtyard, and Kundalini yoga and meditation are available.
