Luxurious Slow-Living in Portugal's Former Hippie Enclave Comporta
Comporta is a small paradise between vast pristine sandy beaches and pine forests. It is the epitome of deceleration and simplicity. The hotel has a total of 90 rooms, suites, and Comporta Cabanas. Wooden cabanas with terraces and natural bathing ponds are spaciously arranged on the grounds. White light-filled interiors are combined with warm wooden artifacts such as Balinese doors or sculptures made of petrified wood.
The three restaurants use produce from the resort's organic garden, orchard, and forest. The restaurants are complemented by a bar that has a large terrace overlooking the pool.
It's a perfect place if you love being active in nature: there are gorgeous surf spots in Comporta, and horseback riding and golf are also available not far from the resort. A wide range of wellness treatments awaits you at the spa, which is equipped with a sauna, a steam bath, a heated indoor pool, and a fitness room.
Start the day with a dip in the natural pool, daydream swim on the beautiful beach, enjoy a light lunch at the new Comporta Beach Club, and ride off into the sunset before ending the evening with delicious local fare at one of the restaurants. Or time travel by visiting the old fishing town of Comporta with its port and little wooden houses all built on stilts.
Sustainability Criteria
- The vast majority of the products used are locally sourced. The hotel has partnerships with local fishermen and farmers and many of their employees are from the area
- The décor uses a combination of well-known brands and artefacts bought locally, which simultaneously helps tell the story of the region and to promote local small businesses and artisans
- Solar panels are used for heating hot water in villas, main building, the Spa building, and the Guest Suites. They are also used for underfloor heating as well as to heat the swimming pools
- The hotel uses mainly led lighting system
- Sublime chef gives precedence to regional recipes and uses seasonal produce at our restaurants
- The coffee served at the hotel is 100% organic
- Only the central block of villas has a basement, the rest are built on stilts. Many of the villas have been designed to incorporate actual trees within them
- The creation of a minimalist environment, with floor-to-ceiling windows, in which nature plays the leading role, is also key in the connection with nature and in raising sustainability awareness
- Sublime is 100% autonomous with regards to drinking water and irrigation. Their wastewater treatment system (WWTP) also allows to obtain water with good enough quality to be used for irrigation
- Sublime has extensive spa and wellness facilities using only organic products
