Perched on a hillside overlooking Porto Ercole on Monte Argentario island, LA ROQQA, meaning "The Fortress," is in the southernmost part of Tuscany. Straddling the border of Lazio and Tuscany, this boutique hotel occupies a privileged vantage point with sweeping views of the sea and echoes of the region's storied past.
All 50 rooms offer balconies and terraces, with options ranging from intimate 20-square-meter rooms to the sprawling 310-square-meter Caravaggio penthouse suite with three bedrooms and panoramic views. Each floor is centered around a specific color: Terra di Siena, reflecting the typical hue of Porto Ercole’s buildings; green, to complement the surrounding vegetation; and blue, to mirror the sea of Argentario. The suites feature soothing sandy tones and a splash of colorful furniture.
Palomba and Serafini Associati Studio created the minimalistic style, mixing artisanal elements with iconic pieces from the 60s and 70s. LA ROQQA collaborates with artisans from the Michelangelo Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to celebrating and preserving Italian craftsmanship while supporting emerging creatives. Their artworks are showcased and offered for sale in the hotel’s shared spaces.
At Scirocco, Executive Chef Francesco Ferretti serves authentic Tuscan cuisine made with seasonal ingredients from their garden, complemented by the freshest catch of the day and a curated selection of Italian wines. The hotel also works with L'Orto Giusto, meaning "The Fair Garden," a social cooperative and agricultural project that employs people with disabilities to grow organic fruit and vegetables. L'Orto Giusto has designed LA ROQQA’s garden and assists in harvesting the organic produce. Guests can partake in the harvest or join interactive cooking sessions for a deeper connection to the land.
Begin your day with a sunrise visit to Forte Filippo, followed by a leisurely breakfast before heading to the hotel’s private Isolotto Beach Club via foot or electric minivan. Active travelers can enjoy tennis, golf, yoga, and Pilates sessions, or revel in horseback rides through the Maremma Regional Park. Wine tours to Tuscany’s renowned wineries, are located just a short drive away.

Porto Ercole is located 45 kilometers from Grosseto, 160 kilometers from Rome, 200 kilometers from Florence, and 200 kilometers from Pisa. Many wineries are located between 20 minutes and an hour from the hotel.
