Game drives in one of the world’s most prolific wildlife areas. The Masai Mara is home to Africa’s ‘Big Five’, as well as the world-famous annual migration of wildebeest. Star gazing is superb here. Admire the birdlife on nature walks within the camp or play volleyball in the Sand River (seasonal). For more information please read our activities and extras document.

Children are welcome and under-threes stay free. Extra beds are available on request and family tents have additional space. The local Maasai are keen to teach their traditions and will show children how to throw a ‘rungu’, tie a ‘shuka’ and make a bow & arrow. Activities also include searching for the ‘toothbrush tree’, spotting the ‘Little Five’ and the ‘Ugly Five’ on game drives, and finding spoor in the riverbed. From the moment we arrived, we were met with such genuine warmth that it truly felt like staying with family. Eric, the manager, and his wife Caroline were the most welcoming hosts—their hospitality went beyond exceptional, and their heartfelt care created an atmosphere that made the camp feel like home. Our safari experience was elevated by our incredible team in the field. Samson, our guide, was absolutely phenomenal, sharing his unmatched knowledge of every animal we encountered. David, our spotter, was equally impressive, working seamlessly alongside Samson to locate wildlife and give us front-row insight into animal behaviors and instincts. Their combined expertise was extraordinary—they are deeply knowledgeable about the animals and their habits, and their passion for the Mara shines through every moment. The food was nothing short of amazing, offering a beautiful variety of options at every meal. Each menu was carefully curated, flavorful, and diverse—something we looked forward to after every game drive. The camp itself is stunning. The rooms are beautiful and thoughtfully designed, with each tent having its own unique personality and aesthetic. With only 7 tents in total, the experience is intimate and peaceful—you never feel like it’s crowded, which is a rare luxury when choosing a safari camp. My personal highlight was seeing a cheetah—a breathtaking, powerful, and graceful encounter that I will cherish forever. Watching such a magnificent creature in the wild was an absolute privilege. There are many safari camps in the Maasai Mara, but what truly sets Sala’s apart is their unwavering dedication to animal conservation and community support. Knowing that this company donates a significant portion of its profits to conservation efforts and local communities made our trip even more meaningful. Their focus on protecting wildlife and giving back to the people of the Mara speaks volumes. If you want an authentic, immersive, and impactful safari experience—one filled with spectacular wildlife, beautiful accommodations, incredible food, and a mission that truly matters—I would 100% choose Sala’s Camp again.
