Six Senses always has the best properties, but this place is special. The views are incredible, rooms modern with a traditional twist, food is outstanding, and the spa is a world top 5. Highly recommend staying here.

From the moment we stepped in to the moment we left, I felt so incredibly welcomed by the warmth of the staff at six senses, particularly Sara who checked us into the hotel. The drive up to the hotel is beautiful, even on a cloudy day. There wasn’t a single part of the hotel that I wasn’t impressed by, from the balcony at reception with the beautiful Douro river view, the padel court engulfed by the hills of the valley, to the swimming pool enveloped by the river on one side and the hills on the other. The service throughout was excellent, and the GEM team were incredibly helpful in assisting with planning our day out to Pinhao to visit various Quintas like Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta das Carvalhas. The restaurant staff were also excellent in helping us choose the best dishes and wine pairings. My tip? Bring a board game or two plus some books, grab your wine library card and sit in the bar enjoying time pass slowly. While the restaurants are very good, I’d also recommend eating out at a nearby restaurant for dinner or lunch at least once or twice during your stay just to taste the local cuisine outside the hotel. Thank you six senses Douro for making my boyfriend’s 30th birthday so special - we will never forget it! [...]

Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Not a single nit to pick. Location, staff, rooms all A+. This is the best we have seen so far in Europe. Not too big, not too small. Very efficiently designed and well maintained. Nicely decorated. Staff are cheerful and friendly, but polite. They make you feel they care. We love this Perfect. Perfect. Perfect.
