A Colorful Adult-Only Boutique Resort on Mauritius' East Coast

59 Rooms | 1 Restaurant | 3 Bars | 1 Spa | 1 Pool

SALT of Palmar in Mauritius offers a unique blend of local culture and modern design, set against the backdrop of the island's stunning natural beauty. Located on a mini-peninsula along Mauritius' secluded east coast, the hotel is surrounded by soft sands, coconut trees, and a serene blue lagoon, creating a picturesque setting that captures the essence of Mauritius

The hotel's design, a collaborative effort by architect Jean-François Adam and artist and designer Camille Walala, is a celebration of color and geometry. The interiors, inspired by the vibrant colors of the island — from the turquoise ocean waters and pink sunsets to the green sugarcane fields — and the local Mauritian culture, feature eye-popping stripes, bold graphic patterns, and playful shapes. The 59 rooms at SALT of Palmar strike a balance between minimalism and vivid color, with details like fiery orange-red chairs, striped cushions, and turquoise-blue wood furnishings reflecting the colors of the Palmar lagoon.

The hotel's culinary offerings are a testament to its commitment to local and sustainable practices. The Good Kitchen, the hotel's restaurant, focuses on locally sourced cuisine with a menu featuring fresh seafood and fine meat dishes, complemented by vegetarian, vegan, and raw options. The hotel's bars, each with its unique craft cocktails, add to the allure of its dining experience.

SALT of Palmar offers a range of complimentary water sports, including standup paddling, kayaking, and snorkeling. The hotel's SALT Equilibrium spa offers a variety of treatments, utilizing organic oils and aromatherapy, with options for beachside sessions. For those looking to explore the local area, the hotel provides bicycle excursions to nearby markets and villages, and through the Skill Swap program, guests can engage with and learn from the local community.

Sustainability is at the core of SALT of Palmar's ethos. With a strong connection to its local community, SALT celebrates the individuals (playfully named “Salt Shakers”) that contribute to its offerings from the local fishermen and rattan artisans to the bartender mixing up craft cocktails. The hotel supports the local economy by sourcing fresh, seasonal organic produce and collaborating with local artisans for handmade decor and amenities. These efforts extend to fostering a healthy workplace environment for its staff, encouraging training and growth opportunities, and hiring locally to ensure cultural representation.

By staying at SALT of Palmar, you enjoy a luxurious and culturally rich experience while contributing to a sustainable and community-oriented approach to tourism in Mauritius.

I’ve spent five days at the Salt of Palmar for my honeymoon last year. I was overwhelmed by the impeccable service and outstanding service. The food is out of this world! Absolutely my favorite boutique hotel in Mauritius so far.

I stayed in two other resorts in Mauritius before, and this was my third stay. Here is a summary of my experience: The place is cozy, not too big, with a friendly and welcoming team that makes you feel comfortable right away. Positives: 1. Here is a summary of my experience: The place is cozy, not too big, with a friendly and welcoming team that makes you feel comfortable right away. Positives: 1. Food quality: Out of all the resorts I tried, the food here was by far the best. Truly delicious and deserves special recognition. 2. Value for money: I stayed 3 nights on full board for around $850, which I found very fair for the quality provided. 3. Resort app: The dedicated mobile app was very useful to check menus and activities. 4. Water activities: Unlike other resorts where you have to book 2–3 days in advance, here it was very easy. I even had a boat trip with just two other people, which made it feel private and not crowded. 5. Staff: Extremely kind, helpful, and attentive. Special thanks to the management for their care. Suggestions for improvement (not essential but nice to have): 1. Adding pictures of the dishes to the menus. 2. Introducing some light evening entertainment, such as live music or simple performances, to create a more vibrant night atmosphere. Overall, this resort exceeded my expectations, and I truly recommend it. Thank you to the whole team for making my stay so enjoyable. [...]

We’re only three days into our stay at Salt of Palmar and already loving the break. The hotel is beautiful, but what really makes it special is the staff — especially in the restaurant. A special thank you to Vish for the delicious masala chai, Med for the attentive service at dinner, and the rest of the team for making us feel so welcome. We’ve even spoken with Shiva, the executive chef, and are really looking forward to trying his parathas tomorrow morning! The weather hasn’t been the best, but that’s out of anyone’s control and certainly doesn’t take away from the experience here. Overall, it’s been a wonderful stay so far and we can’t wait to enjoy the rest of our time. Highly recommended! [...]
