A Colorful Adult-Only Boutique Resort on Mauritius' East Coast

59 Rooms | 1 Restaurant | 3 Bars | 1 Spa | 1 Pool

SALT of Palmar in Mauritius offers a unique blend of local culture and modern design, set against the backdrop of the island's stunning natural beauty. Located on a mini-peninsula along Mauritius' secluded east coast, the hotel is surrounded by soft sands, coconut trees, and a serene blue lagoon, creating a picturesque setting that captures the essence of Mauritius

The hotel's design, a collaborative effort by architect Jean-François Adam and artist and designer Camille Walala, is a celebration of color and geometry. The interiors, inspired by the vibrant colors of the island — from the turquoise ocean waters and pink sunsets to the green sugarcane fields — and the local Mauritian culture, feature eye-popping stripes, bold graphic patterns, and playful shapes. The 59 rooms at SALT of Palmar strike a balance between minimalism and vivid color, with details like fiery orange-red chairs, striped cushions, and turquoise-blue wood furnishings reflecting the colors of the Palmar lagoon.

The hotel's culinary offerings are a testament to its commitment to local and sustainable practices. The Good Kitchen, the hotel's restaurant, focuses on locally sourced cuisine with a menu featuring fresh seafood and fine meat dishes, complemented by vegetarian, vegan, and raw options. The hotel's bars, each with its unique craft cocktails, add to the allure of its dining experience.

SALT of Palmar offers a range of complimentary water sports, including standup paddling, kayaking, and snorkeling. The hotel's SALT Equilibrium spa offers a variety of treatments, utilizing organic oils and aromatherapy, with options for beachside sessions. For those looking to explore the local area, the hotel provides bicycle excursions to nearby markets and villages, and through the Skill Swap program, guests can engage with and learn from the local community.

Sustainability is at the core of SALT of Palmar's ethos. With a strong connection to its local community, SALT celebrates the individuals (playfully named “Salt Shakers”) that contribute to its offerings from the local fishermen and rattan artisans to the bartender mixing up craft cocktails. The hotel supports the local economy by sourcing fresh, seasonal organic produce and collaborating with local artisans for handmade decor and amenities. These efforts extend to fostering a healthy workplace environment for its staff, encouraging training and growth opportunities, and hiring locally to ensure cultural representation.

By staying at SALT of Palmar, you enjoy a luxurious and culturally rich experience while contributing to a sustainable and community-oriented approach to tourism in Mauritius.

Chef Moonien is an oustanding chef. We were very pleasantly surprised by his take on Mauritian food. We relished the fish and appreciated all the fresh and quality ingredients he used in his well-thought and definitely well-executed menu. The personnel was the true essence of Mauritian hospitality. Rewa, Dharam, Dhiraj and Dool left no stone unturned in attending to us. Their always smiling faces just made our stay even more memorable. We recommend a 100% and we are definitely coming back! What stood out most, though, was the level of personal service. After just a day or two, the staff knew our names and what we liked, especially at breakfast. It never felt forced – more like they were genuinely interested in making our stay enjoyable. Breakfast itself was excellent, easily one of the highlights for us. The beach is stunning and definitely adds to the overall experience. The only thing to keep in mind is that the hotel is in a quieter area. For us, that was actually nice, but it does mean you’ll want a car if you plan to explore the island – which, honestly, you probably should do anyway when visiting Mauritius. Overall, a very relaxed and personal place to stay. [...]

Our spacious beachfront room was beautifully designed, with very smart storage that made longer stays easy and comfortable. We enjoyed one week of full board and were extremely impressed by the food. We tried almost all dishes, including vegan options, and were consistently delighted by the generous portions, excellent flavors, and outstanding quality of the fish and all other ingredients. The service was exceptional throughout. Highlights included a perfectly organized romantic dinner on the beach and an amazing experience at TekTek with Sous Chef Ravi. Special thanks to Vish, Reetesh, Bool, Heeroo, Navin, Brahm, and Darvin for their warmth and outstanding hospitality. The Equilibrium couple massage was deeply relaxing and the perfect way to unwind. An unforgettable stay — we highly recommend SALT of Palmar and would love to return. [...]
