A Colorful Adult-Only Boutique Resort on Mauritius' East Coast

59 Rooms | 1 Restaurant | 3 Bars | 1 Spa | 1 Pool

SALT of Palmar in Mauritius offers a unique blend of local culture and modern design, set against the backdrop of the island's stunning natural beauty. Located on a mini-peninsula along Mauritius' secluded east coast, the hotel is surrounded by soft sands, coconut trees, and a serene blue lagoon, creating a picturesque setting that captures the essence of Mauritius

The hotel's design, a collaborative effort by architect Jean-François Adam and artist and designer Camille Walala, is a celebration of color and geometry. The interiors, inspired by the vibrant colors of the island — from the turquoise ocean waters and pink sunsets to the green sugarcane fields — and the local Mauritian culture, feature eye-popping stripes, bold graphic patterns, and playful shapes. The 59 rooms at SALT of Palmar strike a balance between minimalism and vivid color, with details like fiery orange-red chairs, striped cushions, and turquoise-blue wood furnishings reflecting the colors of the Palmar lagoon.

The hotel's culinary offerings are a testament to its commitment to local and sustainable practices. The Good Kitchen, the hotel's restaurant, focuses on locally sourced cuisine with a menu featuring fresh seafood and fine meat dishes, complemented by vegetarian, vegan, and raw options. The hotel's bars, each with its unique craft cocktails, add to the allure of its dining experience.

SALT of Palmar offers a range of complimentary water sports, including standup paddling, kayaking, and snorkeling. The hotel's SALT Equilibrium spa offers a variety of treatments, utilizing organic oils and aromatherapy, with options for beachside sessions. For those looking to explore the local area, the hotel provides bicycle excursions to nearby markets and villages, and through the Skill Swap program, guests can engage with and learn from the local community.

Sustainability is at the core of SALT of Palmar's ethos. With a strong connection to its local community, SALT celebrates the individuals (playfully named “Salt Shakers”) that contribute to its offerings from the local fishermen and rattan artisans to the bartender mixing up craft cocktails. The hotel supports the local economy by sourcing fresh, seasonal organic produce and collaborating with local artisans for handmade decor and amenities. These efforts extend to fostering a healthy workplace environment for its staff, encouraging training and growth opportunities, and hiring locally to ensure cultural representation.

By staying at SALT of Palmar, you enjoy a luxurious and culturally rich experience while contributing to a sustainable and community-oriented approach to tourism in Mauritius.

We had a great room with an ocean view and were woken up by the sunrise (there were blackout curtains) and lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves crashing against the reef. The staff was super friendly and always ready to help. English was no problem. For breakfast and dinner, you could choose from a menu that offered enough variety while remaining consistent. So after a 19-day stay, you knew in advance what you wanted. The staff (often Nikita and Rewa for us) was also super nice, competent, and helpful here. The bread was really awesome. The hotel owns its own bakery and this is noticeable. The hotel itself offers everything you need to pass the time while you’re there. The service here is also a particular highlight. There’s free infused water, sunscreen, lounge chairs, towels, and even an extensive range of water activities: glass-bottom boat tours, trips to snorkeling spots, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and pedal boats. Here, too, the staff were friendly and competent. The hotel itself has a spa area with plenty of options for pampering yourself. We highly recommend the signature hot stone massage. All in all, it leaves nothing to be desired. [...]

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and was almost without exception made from Mauritian ingredients. Special mention must go to their exclusive restaurant, Tek Tek, where a limited number of guests sit around an expert chef who cooks a delightful series of courses right before your eyes. The cocktail selection was very broad and, like the food, was themed around Mauritian ingredients. I only visited the spa once for their basic massage package, but the staff were great and very keen to see to a customer's specific needs. They had a lot of different spa treatments too, for those more interested in that sort of thing. I stayed on the hotel grounds for my whole trip, but the hotel advertised and organised plenty of excursions and experiences around the island for those who want to get out and about. Sadly, I was dreadfully lazy and didn't visit the gym, so I can't comment on that. I stayed in one of the beachfront rooms, with a wonderful view of the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean. The sunrises were gorgeous. The balcony was nicely secluded from the adjacent rooms for privacy. My room was comfortably furnished with lots of big pillows on the bed and a very decadent walk-in shower. All-in-all, I was delighted with SALT of Palmar and would recommend it to anyone! [...]

When I My stay at Salt of Palmar has truly been amazing! The staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I booked two Seaview rooms for my stay and requested they both be relatively close to each other. Initially one room had an obstructed view and was not a full seaview but a partial one. When I made this known to the supervisor Dheeraj, him and the team were very helpful in getting me an available room with a seaview within the next couple days. All the extra effort they went to in ensuring our stay was comfortable really made my birthday special. My parents also really enjoyed their stay. There was one night my mum fancied something that wasn’t on the menu and they made her a special dish just for her. She really appreciated it! The only feedback we had was that there could have been a largely variety of food or a daily/ weekly change of what was on the menu. We also booked the full board (breakfast, lunch & dinner), and some items on the menu were marked with astrix’s which were an extra cost outside of full board or even the all inclusive package so that leaves menu items inside the packages quite limited. Besides this, the food was carefully made, the staff are friendly and upon conversation are quite funny and warm. One lovely staff member even went around with a little spray bottle and cloth to clean the sunglasses of those lying on the beach loungers. The quality of service really made all the difference. It ok the experience of the hotel to the next level. [...]
