A Colorful Adult-Only Boutique Resort on Mauritius' East Coast

59 Rooms | 1 Restaurant | 3 Bars | 1 Spa | 1 Pool

SALT of Palmar in Mauritius offers a unique blend of local culture and modern design, set against the backdrop of the island's stunning natural beauty. Located on a mini-peninsula along Mauritius' secluded east coast, the hotel is surrounded by soft sands, coconut trees, and a serene blue lagoon, creating a picturesque setting that captures the essence of Mauritius

The hotel's design, a collaborative effort by architect Jean-François Adam and artist and designer Camille Walala, is a celebration of color and geometry. The interiors, inspired by the vibrant colors of the island — from the turquoise ocean waters and pink sunsets to the green sugarcane fields — and the local Mauritian culture, feature eye-popping stripes, bold graphic patterns, and playful shapes. The 59 rooms at SALT of Palmar strike a balance between minimalism and vivid color, with details like fiery orange-red chairs, striped cushions, and turquoise-blue wood furnishings reflecting the colors of the Palmar lagoon.

The hotel's culinary offerings are a testament to its commitment to local and sustainable practices. The Good Kitchen, the hotel's restaurant, focuses on locally sourced cuisine with a menu featuring fresh seafood and fine meat dishes, complemented by vegetarian, vegan, and raw options. The hotel's bars, each with its unique craft cocktails, add to the allure of its dining experience.

SALT of Palmar offers a range of complimentary water sports, including standup paddling, kayaking, and snorkeling. The hotel's SALT Equilibrium spa offers a variety of treatments, utilizing organic oils and aromatherapy, with options for beachside sessions. For those looking to explore the local area, the hotel provides bicycle excursions to nearby markets and villages, and through the Skill Swap program, guests can engage with and learn from the local community.

Sustainability is at the core of SALT of Palmar's ethos. With a strong connection to its local community, SALT celebrates the individuals (playfully named “Salt Shakers”) that contribute to its offerings from the local fishermen and rattan artisans to the bartender mixing up craft cocktails. The hotel supports the local economy by sourcing fresh, seasonal organic produce and collaborating with local artisans for handmade decor and amenities. These efforts extend to fostering a healthy workplace environment for its staff, encouraging training and growth opportunities, and hiring locally to ensure cultural representation.

By staying at SALT of Palmar, you enjoy a luxurious and culturally rich experience while contributing to a sustainable and community-oriented approach to tourism in Mauritius.

I loved the fresh scent in the room, the shampoo and shower gel smelled amazing too, really good quality products. The food was tasty and healthy, and I really liked that it was à la carte instead of a buffet. I’d definitely recommend choosing the half-board option because the food is excellent! The hotel also offers lots of fun activities, I especially enjoyed the art paintings and the glass boat trip. Just a friendly warning — the birds might try to steal your food right in front of you! 😄 [...]

This hotel is truly unique for Mauritius – a little smaller and more intimate than many other resorts, with beautiful Moroccan-inspired design elements that make it feel very special and full of character. At first glance, the hotel may not seem as grand or imposing as some of the larger ones on the island, but that impression quickly changes. You soon realize that here, it’s all about quality over quantity. The service is exceptional – warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. A big thank you to the kind Gentleman at the beach who offers to clean your sunglasses, makes sure you drink enough water and use sunscreen (which is offered by the hotel). Also a big thank you to Dev who made every meal feel special with his kindness and professionalism. The food is simply outstanding – probably the best we’ve ever had in a hotel. Instead of big buffets, there’s a well-curated à la carte menu for breakfast and other meals, offering fresh, beautifully presented dishes. There are plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and even raw vegan options, and everything is freshly made, including gluten-free bread and pastries. We honestly had the best croissant of our lives here – even better than in France! A special highlight was dinner at the Tek Tek Restaurant, where Chef Ravi creates a fantastic live cooking experience. The seafood dishes were amazing, but he also prepared outstanding vegetarian options. It was a truly memorable evening – both delicious and entertaining. Although the hotel is small, there’s plenty to do: we went snorkeling and took a boat trip, both of which were beautiful experiences. Overall, the hotel salt of palmar stands out for its high-quality cuisine, incredible service, and sustainable approach – cooking only what’s needed, avoiding waste, and focusing on freshness and authenticity. We left feeling completely relaxed and grateful for such a wonderful experience. Highly recommended – we’ll definitely be back! 🌺 [...]

It also has a gym and offers various activities. The food is also excellent. Perhaps it would be good to vary the menu a little, as at some point we didn't know what to eat anymore... but the food was always excellent and of great quality. The staff are also very friendly. Occasionally, a few mistakes were made by the waiters, but it wasn't a big deal. The hotel complex is also great. Rishi was very friendly and courteous and always helped us book various excursions or when we needed a taxi. Thank you again. A big thank you also to the waiters Dev and Rish. They were always very helpful and friendly and we always received excellent service when eating. We would definitely come back if we were to return to Mauritius. Thank you all for a wonderful time!
