A 13^th Century Chateau in Cognac Country, Dedicated to Nature’s Equilibrium

Nestled in the heart of Cognac country, between the valleys of the Périgord-Limousin nature reserve, Domaine des Etangs is all about balance and connection to nature. The property is made up of a 13^th-century Chateau with seven rooms and suites, along with a long, rustic stone farmhouse with a room designed for each season, and 6 farm cottages from 1 to 5 bedrooms with living rooms for family dining.

Twenty-five thousand acres of protected forests, grasslands, and ponds (there are seven main lakes) surround the Chateau, and hiking, boating, horseback riding, and fishing are available. There is also a 2500m vegetable garden along with a free-range Limouisin cow farm, which provides produce and organic beef for Dyades, a gourmet restaurant located in the castle’s former stables. Interiors designed by Isabelle Stanislas combine minimal French country chic with period pieces. Exposed beams, stone walls, and pieces from local craftsmen are central. Domaine des Etangs has an extensive contemporary art collection, spa treatments developed by season, a Roman bathhouse, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

ACTIVITIES:

Play tennis by the lake, go hiking, fishing, biking, or boating. Marvel at the hotel’s surroundings, choose a book from the library or admire the chateau’s art collection.

The city of Limoges is about a 50-minute drive away. The next largest city, Bordeaux, is a 2-hour drive away. In both cities, you can visit museums and sights, visit restaurants and coffees, or browse stores.

SPA & POOL:

The Moulin des Etangs Spa offers treatments using products made on-site. You can also work out in the fitness room.

The hotel has a heated outdoor pool with lounge chairs, open from May through September. A heated indoor pool is also available to guests.

FAMILY:

The hotel organizes an extra program for children. Here children can go horseback riding, fishing, visiting the farm, and much more. There is also a playground, table tennis, and a play corner in the house.

Both restaurants offer special children’s menus. In addition, extra beds can be added for a fee.

Wow, the setting, the service and the food (and wine)... simply amazing. Even the burger 🍔 was out of this world!...not to mention the steak 🥩, locally harvested fruits, veggies and hand made dessert! 🍰 If ever passing by...you should do yourself a favor and eat, stay or explore this beautiful countryside Chateau...nearly 700 years

Had a lovely lunch there today. Sat outside on the terrace (really nice) then a fantastic 3 course set menu. Very good value too. And fizzy water is included! Service was great too. Thanks!

Fabulous experience - received as a perfect gift from our children. We had a wonderful meal in this beautiful setting. Everything we were presented with looked amazing and tasted delicious. The staff also looked after us well and made us feel very welcome and comfortable.
