Nestled in the Serra Tramuntana mountains in a nature reserve a short drive from Palma, Ratxó is a traditional finca with a luxurious, sustainably forward update. Parts of the Finca are original from the 15th and 16th centuries; others are built for modern life. The property’s 25 rooms range from rustic doubles with private terraces to suites with private pools, gardens, and indoor jacuzzis. High ceilings and exposed wooden beams define the space. This beautiful hotel is constantly striving for a more ecologically respectful balance—they have completed goals like eliminating single plastic and are taking concrete measures towards the next steps.

Criteria

The hotel is located in the middle of a UNESCO nature reserve, which it also operates itself. Goats and other wild animals live around the hotel.

The building used to be an olive oil press and even today they still produce olive oil themselves. LJs Ratxo also offers its own wine. There is a herb and vegetable garden and on the menu are regional products.

The old walls of the oil mill including the typical Marjorcan stone walls have been carefully restored. The furniture is made of natural materials. An eye-catcher are the coffee cups, which are made from coffee grounds by a German start-up.

The hotel is single-use plastic free., including in-room bottles. Waste is separated and recycled. Toiletries are offered in dispensers. Signs and guest communication are all made of local wood from the reserve.
