Minos Beach Art Hotel: A Haven of Contemporary Comfort and Cretan Heritage

Situated on a private peninsula, Minos Beach Art Hotel is just 900 meters from the heart of Agios Nikolaos. The hotel blends modern minimalism with Crete’s natural beauty, providing 125 rooms, villas, and suites. Each space features earthy-toned décor, with many offering private pools and stunning sea views. The rooms are designed with a contemporary atmosphere, creating a tactile world of concrete, exposed beams, wooden carpentry, and muted, neutral colors. Guests can enjoy spacious terraces for a perfect outdoor retreat.

The hotel’s culinary offerings reflect the island's gastronomic traditions. Chefs Poppy Kourkoutaki and Kyriakos Mylonas collaborate with local suppliers to present a farm-to-table dining experience. The La Bouillabaisse restaurant offers fine Mediterranean cuisine paired with sweeping panoramic views. Terpsis, a casual, seaside spot, serves authentic Cretan fare, while Bacchus presents a Greek buffet with live cooking stations. For a more relaxed setting, Adeste Traditional Kafenion offers mezze, grilled delights, and live music, showcasing local flavors. The hotel’s collection of bars includes the La Cave wine bar, featuring wines from Crete and beyond, and the Dionyssos Bar, perfect for pre-dinner cocktails.

Ananea Wellness by Aegeo Spas, set amidst olive trees and contemporary art, provides a tranquil sanctuary. The spa offers a wide range of treatments using natural ingredients, such as soothing massages, facials, and steam rooms with panoramic views of the surrounding area.

After a day of indulgence, guests can enjoy a variety of experiences designed to immerse them in Cretan culture. A great place to start is a visit to Kritsa, a charming traditional village where you can explore the Xombli weaving workshop and meet the women of the Women Association of Kritsa and the Agricultural Cooperative of Kritsa, who are dedicated to preserving the island’s ancient craftsmanship. Another must-see is Spinalonga, a breathtaking island with Venetian-era fortresses. Here, you can explore the ruins with a knowledgeable guide and uncover the island’s fascinating history.

To further immerse yourself in the local culture, extend your journey to the nearby villages of Elounda, Plaka, Vrouhas, and Fourni, where you can discover the authentic flavors and traditions of Crete. Visits to local wineries for private wine tastings are also possible. Some activities are available year-round, while others are best enjoyed from April to October or June to October.

The hotel also offers cooking classes for those interested in learning the art of Cretan cuisine and exploring the island’s rich gastronomic heritage. For those who prefer more active pursuits, the surrounding area offers numerous hiking trails, climbing spots, and opportunities for diving. During the summer months, the hotel organizes a range of outdoor activities, including boat trips exploring the beauty of Mirabello Bay. Guests can also unwind with yoga sessions, tennis and pilates.

The setting was beautiful, and we were very fortunate to be in a quiet part of the hotel where it wasn’t too windy, which made it especially relaxing. The spa treatments were also enjoyable, though it did feel a little less relaxing when products were promoted at the end of the session. One area where we felt there could be improvement was in accommodating dietary requirements, particularly for guests with gluten/coeliac conditions. Breakfast was the most challenging, as there was no clear signage for gluten-free options, and gluten-free pancakes were only available once during our stay. When we asked if they could be prepared again, a few days later, we were told no by the kitchen staff, which was disappointing. By contrast, the Labouliabase restaurant did an excellent job of accommodating dietary needs at dinner, which we greatly appreciated. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and think with a few small changes—particularly around dietary support at breakfast—the experience could be even better. [...]

The protected lagoon is a tranquil setting for relaxation. The room was simply furnished but nice. Negatives - no hot water the first day. It was fixed immediately but I still had to endure a cold shower. Couch is pretty uncomfortable and no smart TV to stream shows. Service - for a 5 star resort I did not feel like the service was up to par. We had to ask for things multiple times, were either rushed or left waiting for someone to come by. Al la carte dinner at main restaurant was slow, with tiny portions and bad service. Meal was OK but nothing special. I know it's 5 star, but the pricing on food and drinks was ridiculous for what you get. Positives Dinner at Kafenion Adeste was amazing. The pork & chicken skewers were so juicy and flavorful and the pasta was fresh. Breakfast buffet was wonderful with lots of options that changed slightly daily. [...]

Gorgeous hotel, wonderful staff. I honestly think the staff really make the place. The grounds are beautiful too and I love the art incorporated into the property but the staff goes above and beyond about the smallest things. No detail is left unturned and they treat you like family. Breakfast was incredible every morning and Gorgeous hotel, wonderful staff. I honestly think the staff really make the place. No detail is left unturned and they treat you like family. Breakfast was incredible every morning and so was the food in the rest of the hotel. It also felt reasonably priced which is nice as you rarely get that at a nice hotel. Special shoutout to Dina and Giannis at the bar as well as the woman who helps giannis whose name is escaping me. The only thing that I’d potentially change is the room didn’t necessarily feel like a 5 star hotel room, it was nice and I was happy just didn’t give the 5 star element, everything else was perfect though and I’d return in a heartbeat!
