Stamna Sifnos: A Five-Star Boutique Hotel on a Lesser-Known Cycladic Island

20 Rooms & Suites | 1 Restaurant | 1 Pool | Organic Farm

On the lesser-known island of Sifnos, in the heart of the Cyclades, Stamna Sifnos is one of only two five-star properties. Set amid rocky landscapes with open views across the Aegean Sea, this boutique hotel in Sifnos offers a calm alternative to the busier Greek islands. Just 20 individually designed rooms and suites are positioned to face the blue horizon, each with private outdoor seating and space to unwind.

The 20 accommodations vary in size and layout, from Petit Double Rooms with Terrace and Honeymoon Nests to Sea View Suites, Cave Suites, Maisonettes, a Suite with Private Pool and spacious Friends & Family Suites. All open onto terraces or balconies oriented toward the sea. The design is contemporary and restrained, allowing natural light, stone textures and the surrounding landscape to take precedence. The result is a five-star hotel in the Cyclades that prioritizes privacy, comfort and a strong sense of place.

Extensive gardens with olive trees and aromatic herbs frame the property, while a central pool looks out toward the Aegean. The setting reflects the island’s character: rugged terrain, pebble beaches and panoramic cliff views. Sifnos is known for its hiking trails and slower rhythm of life, offering opportunities to explore both coastline and inland paths.

Pilos, Stamna’s main restaurant, is open to both hotel guests and visitors. Guided by Chef Consultant Gkikas Xenakis, the kitchen follows a Mediterranean philosophy rooted in Cycladic traditions and quality ingredients. Hand-picked vegetables, aromatic herbs, fresh seafood and premium meats shape a vegetable-forward menu, complemented by select vegan options. Many ingredients are sourced from small producers on Sifnos and across the Cyclades, with seasonality defining each dish. A curated wine list highlights Greek and Cycladic vineyards.

An integral part of the concept is “Kipos,” Stamna’s organic farm, supplying vegetables, herbs and fruits for the kitchen. Breakfast features organic ingredients and traditional Greek specialties, while snacks, light bites, mixology and in-room dining are available throughout the day.

Wellbeing at Stamna is integrated into daily life. A dedicated yoga deck hosts guided sessions focused on mindful movement and breathwork. Pilates classes emphasize posture, strength and alignment. Massage treatments are available by appointment. Beyond the property, guests can arrange activities such as wine and cheese tastings, gastronomy lessons, pottery workshops, hiking, biking, rock climbing, scuba diving, boat charters and private island tours.

Sustainability is embedded in the hotel’s operations. Energy-saving initiatives and waste management practices aim to reduce environmental impact, while local sourcing supports the island’s economy and minimizes food miles. Fair employment practices and collaboration with regional producers reflect a broader commitment to community engagement. For travelers seeking a sustainable luxury hotel in Greece that balances five-star comfort with environmental responsibility, Stamna Sifnos offers a thoughtful approach.

In the morning, enjoy breakfast overlooking the Aegean before setting out to explore nearby villages or coastal trails. Spend the afternoon by the pool or on a pebble beach, and return at sunset for dinner at Pilos, where Cycladic wines and seasonal dishes bring the flavors of Sifnos to the table.

The hotel itself is beautiful, and the island setting only adds to the charm. What really made our stay special was the staff — every single person we interacted with was warm, welcoming and genuinely friendly, making us feel looked after the whole time. The food and wine offering was excellent too, a real highlight of our stay. Between the setting, the hospitality and the quality of everything on offer, we couldn't have asked for a better few days. Highly recommend Stamna Sifnos to anyone visiting the island — we left with wonderful memories and would love to come back. [...]

Our first visit to Sifnos couldn’t have started in a better place. Stamna feels like a little haven in the heart of the island. Stamna Our first visit to Sifnos couldn’t have started in a better place. Stamna feels like a little haven in the heart of the island. Sifnos isn’t an island of big luxury resorts—it’s somewhere you come to embrace a slower, more thoughtful pace of life, with incredible food, beautiful beaches and a wonderfully authentic atmosphere. Stamna captures that spirit perfectly. The location is ideal, making it easy to explore the island’s best beaches and many of its standout restaurants, although the hotel’s own restaurant is excellent in its own right. Every meal we had was fantastic, and the quality of the food and drink never disappointed. We also loved the vegetable garden, where produce is harvested and used for guests—a lovely touch that reflects the care that goes into the experience. The design throughout the property is beautifully considered, with high-quality finishes that feel understated, elegant and completely in keeping with the island. What really stood out, though, was the warmth of the team. Everyone made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. It was also lovely to meet the owners during our stay—a thoughtful and increasingly rare gesture that added a personal touch. If you’re looking for a peaceful, design-led base from which to experience the best of Sifnos, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Stamna. [...]

To begin, the hotel, which is one year old, is laid out over many acres and integrated into the natural environment of the land. There are wild flowers and herbs everywhere you go! The rooms are simple with nice decor and most come with fantastic spacious terraces that have lounge chairs and tables. Our rooms, which are built on a hill, had views of the sea. The staff is fantastic and incredibly friendly and can't do enough for you. Huge shout out to Costas, the owner, his wife, and Costees. There is daily yoga or pilates at the simple out door gym, which was a total treat for me. Thank you to Magdalini for her wonderful yoga instruction! Breakfast around the lovely pool was delicious and plentiful and fresh. You can walk into town in about 15 minutes - adorable town with lots of restaurants and stores. We loved Sifnos and were so happy and comfortable at Stamnos. It felt like our Greek home and we hope to return one day. [...]
