Wanås Restaurant Hotel: Nordic Simplicity and Contemporary Elegance in a Peaceful Setting
In the southern part of Sweden, just outside the town of Knislinge, Wanås Restaurant Hotel is surrounded by picturesque landscapes, including forests, rolling hills, and farmland. Upon arrival, a sense of tranquility envelops the senses, immersing guests in the serenity of the Swedish countryside.
The estate, home to a 15th-century castle, an organic farm, and an expansive sculpture park, has been carefully restored with a focus on natural materials. Blending Nordic design with sustainability, vintage furniture and contemporary art coexist with limestone floors, wooden details, and meter-thick stone walls.
Eleven individually designed rooms are situated across restored 18th-century barns. All rooms feature wooden floors and combine white walls with delicate touches of terracotta and pastel colors. In tune with the hotel’s mindful approach, there is no television or coffee machine in the rooms.
The restaurant, which is an essential part of the experience when staying here, is also open to the general public. The menu is based on organic products (at least 80% of the ingredients) from Wanås’ certified organic farm, including game, milk, beef, vegetables, berries, mushrooms, and herbs from the surrounding forest. Of course, the focus is primarily on seasonal and regional products, avoiding imported items as much as possible.
Around the hotel, the internationally acclaimed sculpture park Wanås Konst is one of the highlights of the stay. Its permanent collection has commissioned works by renowned artists such as Jenny Holzer, William Forsythe, Yoko Ono, Marina Abramovic and Robert Wilson.
The hotel also provides meeting and event rooms with views of the surrounding sculpture park. From exclusive board meetings to creative workshops, private parties, and weddings, Wanås Restaurant Hotel can be rented exclusively. For large groups, do not forget to inquire about “The Wanås Experience – Dining in the Wild”. This unique offering includes a stunning outdoor dining setup paired with a private tour of the sculpture park.
